Digital Painting
Click here to try my favorite online digital doodler
Six years ago, I adopted digital painting as my new favorite medium. I was originally trained in traditional fine art techniques. By then (1999) digital natural media had become sufficiently responsive to intrigue those of us who had been trained in oils or acrylic.
The application that was then Metacreations Painter quickly became my toolbox of choice. Six years, and more than half a dozen versions later, Painter (now owned by Corel) remains the most responsive and complex of digital painting programs, and the only one based on natural media techniques. When I get a chance, I'll supply a link and some articles regarding this great-granddaddy of all digital painting programs.
Meanwhile, if you're new to freehand digital painting, try this little online flash doodler available at art.com.
Be sure to fiddle with the various sliders to make you choices of brushes and colors more or less transparent, larger, or smaller. If you relax and use your imagination, you'll be surprised at what you can do. This online activity also allows you to save your paintings or send them to others as emails. Lots of fun! If you like this, you might get a while new outlook on digital imagery.
